We are looking to recruit an experienced civil/structural engineering technician to help us with our busy workload on a wide range of civil, structural, infrastructure and environmental projects.

The position is a permanent role based in our Peterborough office.  The appointment would commence in February/March 2020.

You will be a civil/structural technician with a minimum of five years experience, educated in a civil engineering discipline to BTEC (Level 3 or higher).  Ideally you would hold the Engineering Technician qualification through either the Institution of Civil Engineers or the Institution of Structural Engineers.

Desirable skills for this role include:

  • Drawing production in AutoCAD including civil and structural general arrangement drawings and detail drawings.
  • Reinforcement detailing and scheduling.
  • Production of drainage schedules and drainage layouts.
  • Earthworks modelling using specialist software such as PDS, LSS or Civils 3D.
  • Checking of fabrication drawings.
  • Production of schedules of quantities.
  • Experience of using AutoDesk REVIT suite.
  • Site inspections.
  • Site surveys.
  • Liaison with Clients and Contractors.

Founded in 1927, Stirling Maynard is an established independent Civil and Structural Engineering Design Consultancy based in Peterborough.  We provide full professional services to plan, design, project manage and supervise all types of construction and development projects.  We are now looking to recruit an additional engineer to our infrastructure and drainage design department.

The Role

We require an engineer to assist with and undertake the design of infrastructure and drainage schemes, working alongside senior engineers, graduates and technicians, as part of our design team. This role would suit an engineer with some experience who is looking to develop their skills through working on interesting and challenging projects.  The successful candidate will be able to register on our ICE Approved Training Scheme which provides the opportunity to develop skills and work towards achieving chartered or incorporated engineer status in a structured way.

The Ideal Candidate

You have a good first degree (BEng or MEng) in Civil Engineering plus one to two years design experience with a UK Consultancy. Suitable experience would include the production of Flood Risk Assessment reports, use of WINDES software to design drainage networks, SuDs design, highway design, earth modelling using PDS or similar software, and AutoCAD.  Most important is a keen interest in infrastructure / drainage design, a pro-active attitude to learning, and attention to detail along with the enthusiasm and drive necessary to meet project deadlines.  You gain satisfaction from the problem-solving aspects of engineering design.

You are a good communicator with high standards of verbal and written English, an optimistic outlook, are adaptable to new challenges and have a can-do attitude. You relate well to other people regardless of their background and culture.

Candidates without the requisite academic qualifications may still be considered where they can demonstrate suitable experience and the ability to learn.
